The Detroit Pistons are finalizing a deal to hire Troy Weaver as their next general manager, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Weaver is currently employed as the vice president of basketball operations for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He has worked for the Thunder since 2010, with past roles including vice president and assistant general manager, where he played a significant role in identifying Thunder draft prospects such as Russell Westbrook.
Prior to that, Weaver worked for the Utah Jazz from 2004-08 as a head scout and director of player personnel.
The Pistons have been operating with an assistant general manager (Sachin Gupta) and an associate general manager (Pat Garrity).
Their most recent GM, Ed Stefanski, works under the title of “senior advisor of basketball operations.”
Weaver will become the ninth Black general manager currently in the NBA and will work with Stefanski running the Pistons, Wojnarowski noted.
